Ingredients
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup honey (optional)
Kitchen Tools Needed:
- Large mixing bowl
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Whisk
- 8-inch square baking pan or cast-iron skillet
- Parchment paper
- Pastry brush
Steps
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease an 8-inch square baking pan or a cast-iron skillet with butter or line with parchment paper.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, melted butter, eggs, and honey (if using). Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan or skillet. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool and serve: Let the cornbread cool slightly in the pan before slicing and serving. If using a cast-iron skillet, you can serve it directly from the skillet.
