Ingredients

  1. 1 cup cornmeal
  2. 1 cup all-purpose flour
  3. 1/4 cup sugar
  4. 1 tbsp baking powder
  5. 1/2 tsp salt
  6. 1 cup buttermilk
  7. 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  8. 2 large eggs
  9. 1/4 cup honey (optional)

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease an 8-inch square baking pan or a cast-iron skillet with butter or line with parchment paper.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, melted butter, eggs, and honey (if using). Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  4. Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan or skillet. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  5. Cool and serve: Let the cornbread cool slightly in the pan before slicing and serving. If using a cast-iron skillet, you can serve it directly from the skillet.
