Ingredients

  1. 1 loaf (about 1 lb) day-old bread, cut into 1/2-inch cubes (white, sourdough, or French bread)
  2. 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  3. 1 large onion, diced
  4. 3 celery stalks, diced
  5. 3 cloves garlic, minced
  6. 2 teaspoons poultry seasoning (or a mix of sage, thyme, and rosemary)
  7. 1 teaspoon salt
  8. 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  9. 2 1/2 to 3 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  10. 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  11. 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

Kitchen Tools Needed:

  1. Large skillet
  2. Baking sheet
  3. 9x13-inch baking dish
  4. Mixing bowl
  5. Measuring cups and spoons

Steps

  1. Prepare the Bread: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread the bread cubes on a baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until lightly toasted and dry. Set aside to cool.
  2. Cook the Vegetables: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion and celery, and cook for 8-10 minutes, or until softened. Add the minced garlic, poultry seasoning, salt, and pepper, and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  3. Combine the Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the toasted bread cubes, cooked vegetables, and chopped parsley. Pour in 2 1/2 cups of broth and the beaten eggs, and gently mix until the bread is evenly moistened. Add more broth if the stuffing appears dry.
  4. Bake the Stuffing: Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Cover with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  5. Serve: Let the stuffing cool for a few minutes before serving.
