Ingredients

  1. The Fish:
    • 1 lb white fish fillets (such as cod, tilapia, or mahi-mahi)
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil
    • 1 tablespoon butter
    • 1 lime, juiced
    • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
    • 1 clove garlic, minced
    • Salt and pepper, to taste
    • 8 small corn or flour tortillas
  2. Toppings:
    • Shredded lettuce or cabbage
    • 1/4 cup red onion, thinly sliced
    • Sour cream or Greek yogurt
    • Salsa or pico de gallo
    • Fresh lime wedges, for serving

Kitchen Tools Needed:

  1. Large skillet
  2. Spatula
  3. Mixing bowl
  4. Knife and cutting board

Steps

  1. Prepare the Fish: Pat the fish fillets dry and season both sides with salt, pepper, and minced garlic.
  2. Cook the Fish: Heat the olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the fish fillets and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
  3. Add Lime and Cilantro: Once the fish is cooked, remove the skillet from the heat. Squeeze the juice of 1 lime over the fish and sprinkle with fresh cilantro. Gently break the fish into large chunks using a spatula.
  4. Warm the Tortillas: Warm the tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave for about 20-30 seconds until soft and pliable.
  5. Assemble the Tacos: Divide the fish evenly among the tortillas. Top with shredded lettuce or cabbage, sliced red onion, sour cream, and salsa. Squeeze fresh lime juice over the tacos for added flavor.
  6. Serve: Serve the fish tacos with extra cilantro and lime wedges on the side.
