Ingredients
- The Fish:
- 1 lb white fish fillets (such as cod, tilapia, or mahi-mahi)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 lime, juiced
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 8 small corn or flour tortillas
- Toppings:
- Shredded lettuce or cabbage
- 1/4 cup red onion, thinly sliced
- Sour cream or Greek yogurt
- Salsa or pico de gallo
- Fresh lime wedges, for serving
Kitchen Tools Needed:
- Large skillet
- Spatula
- Mixing bowl
- Knife and cutting board
Steps
- Prepare the Fish: Pat the fish fillets dry and season both sides with salt, pepper, and minced garlic.
- Cook the Fish: Heat the olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the fish fillets and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
- Add Lime and Cilantro: Once the fish is cooked, remove the skillet from the heat. Squeeze the juice of 1 lime over the fish and sprinkle with fresh cilantro. Gently break the fish into large chunks using a spatula.
- Warm the Tortillas: Warm the tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave for about 20-30 seconds until soft and pliable.
- Assemble the Tacos: Divide the fish evenly among the tortillas. Top with shredded lettuce or cabbage, sliced red onion, sour cream, and salsa. Squeeze fresh lime juice over the tacos for added flavor.
- Serve: Serve the fish tacos with extra cilantro and lime wedges on the side.
