Ingredients

  1. For the Beef:
    • 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
    • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
    • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
    • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for stir-frying)
  2. For the Sauce:
    • 1/4 cup soy sauce
    • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
    • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
    • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
    • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
    • 1 teaspoon sugar
    • 1/4 cup water or beef broth
  3. For the Noodles and Vegetables:
    • 8 oz lo mein noodles (or spaghetti)
    • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
    • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
    • 1 carrot, julienned
    • 1 cup broccoli florets
    • 1/2 cup snow peas or sugar snap peas
    • 3 green onions, sliced (for garnish)

Kitchen Tools Needed:

  1. Large pot (for boiling noodles)
  2. Large skillet or wok (for stir-frying)
  3. Tongs or spatula
  4. Small mixing bowl (for the sauce)

Steps

  1. Marinate the Beef: In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce and cornstarch. Toss the thinly sliced beef in the mixture and let it marinate for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Make the Sauce: In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, sugar, and water (or beef broth). Set aside.
  3. Cook the Noodles: Bring a large pot of water to a boil and cook the lo mein noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside. Toss the cooked noodles with a little sesame oil to prevent sticking.
  4. Cook the Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.
  5. Stir-Fry the Vegetables: In the same pan, add another tablespoon of oil if needed. Add the minced garlic and ginger, stir-frying for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the bell pepper, carrot, broccoli, and snow peas. Stir-fry the vegetables for 3-4 minutes until they are tender but still crisp.
  6. Combine the Ingredients: Add the cooked beef back to the pan, along with the cooked noodles. Pour the prepared sauce over everything and toss to combine. Stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes until everything is heated through and coated in the sauce.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat and garnish with sliced green onions. Serve hot, straight from the pan, and enjoy!
