Ingredients
- 1 lb cheese tortellini (fresh or frozen)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional, for extra flavor)
- 2 tablespoons fresh basil or parsley, chopped (for garnish)
- Additional Parmesan cheese, for serving
Kitchen Tools Needed:
- Large pot
- Skillet
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Spatula or spoon
Steps
- Cook the Tortellini: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the cheese tortellini and cook according to package instructions (usually 3-5 minutes for fresh, or 8-10 minutes for frozen) until tender. Drain and set aside.
- Make the Sauce: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes, or until fragrant. Stir in the heavy cream, bringing the mixture to a gentle simmer. Cook for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Add the Cheese and Seasoning: Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, and nutmeg (if using). Continue cooking for another 1-2 minutes, stirring until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.
- Combine with Tortellini: Add the cooked tortellini to the skillet, tossing to coat evenly with the sauce.
- Serve: Transfer the cheese tortellini to serving plates. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley and additional Parmesan cheese if desired. Serve immediately.
