Ingredients
- For the Dough:
- 3/4 cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- For the Filling:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- For the Cream Cheese Icing:
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2-3 tablespoons milk (to thin the icing)

Steps
- Make the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy. Add the melted butter, salt, and egg to the yeast mixture, and stir to combine. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Make the Filling: In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until well combined.
- Roll and Fill the Dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a 15x9-inch rectangle. Spread the cinnamon-sugar filling evenly over the dough. Roll the dough tightly from the long side to form a log, then cut into 12 equal pieces.
- Second Rise: Place the cinnamon rolls in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Bake the Cinnamon Rolls: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Make the Cream Cheese Icing: In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk, and mix until the icing is smooth and creamy.
- Frost and Serve: Spread the cream cheese icing over the warm cinnamon rolls. Serve immediately.
